TAICHUNG, TAIWAN (TTNews) – The tea consumed by the people of Taiwan was first imported from mainland China; thus, the tea culture of Taiwan can be traced back to Chinese tea culture. The history of Chinese tea culture can be dated back to the Western Zhou Dynasty, which has been more than 3,000 years of history.

Tea culture in China differs from many places around the world regarding to preparation methods, tasting methods and occasions for which it is consumed. The contemporary art of tea included the way tea is served and the etiquette is used is the result of three thousand years of history evolution. Each dynasty has a different way of tea tasting. Over the time, each and every tea culture has its own distinctive cultural significance.

In addition to being a spiritual drink, Chinese has long discovered that there are many medical functions of tea, which was consumed regularly as an antidote. As a matter of fact, tea can enhance health and longevity.

Back in the early days, tea is not entirely consumed as tea, but as tea-flavored porridge. According to the study originated from Szechuan and Hubei areas, the so-called tea-flavored porridge is actually prepared with slightly baked tea cake with a garnish of scallion, ginger, cilantro, salt and other seasonings to enhance the flavor. It is believed that eating tea-flavored porridge would help to get rid of the greasy feeling of eating too much meat.

Although there are plenty of ways of how tea is prepared and served along with the changes of the times, the appreciation of tea, the art of art and the beauty of tea are still closely related to our daily life.
