TAIPEI, TAIWAN (TTNews) – Traditional flavoured candied fruits skewers were once part of many people’s childhood memories. As time goes on, candied fruits skewers with a harden sugar coating can rarely be found in the market nowadays, replaced by popcorn, cotton candy and other Western-style confectionary.

There is a vendor in Ningxia Night Market specialized in selling candied fruits skewers for over 20 years. The hostess Ms. Lee mentioned that her husband originally was engaged in selling fruits, but she felt that it is necessary to retain this traditional delicacy, so she decided to place emphasis on the candied fruits skewer production.

This snack is consists of candied fruits on bamboo skewers, which typically has a hardened sugar coating that comes from dipping the skewer in pure sugar syrup without adding any artificial color. The candied fruits come in strawberry, tomato, pear and various other fruit choices. The crispy and sweet sugar coating and juicy fruits make a pleasantly tasty and mouthwatering match. Over the past 20 years, the vendor has accumulated quite a great number of loyal customers.

In recent years, there are a lot of newlyweds who order a large quantity of candied fruits skewers sending to their wedding banquet to represent as a keepsake, replaced the traditional use of wedding candies.

Traditional candied fruits skewers have a round appearance on behalf of the meaning of “satisfaction” or “completion”. In Chinese cultural traditions, bright red is often associated with weddings, in which means “happiness”. In addition, maltose is characterized by its stickiness, which means “sticking together forever”. The enchanting aroma and mouthwatering sweetness of candied fruits skewers also imply the idea of “sweet love”.

Pieces of traditional flavored candied fruits along with the cheery and joyful wedding march, strung together to witness the romantic love and leave the guests the most touching and beautiful memories!
