TAINAN, TAIWAN (TraNews) – Baihe Township is an rural town tucked away in Tainan County. Baihe is famous for its Lotus Festival and is a leading lotus producer with over 100 hectares of lotus fields. The biggest feature of Baihe Township is that there are lotus fields everywhere can be seen on the both sides of the road, so visitors to Baihe can appreciate the beauty of lotus free of charge.
The lotus seed harvest usually lasts from June to September, reaching its peak in July and August. During this period is also the busiest time of the year for local tourism. It is an interesting fact that the flowering period of lotus only lasts for four days; hence, it is highly recommended that tourists can pay a visit to the lotus fields in the early morning between 5 AM and 10 PM.
On the first day, the lotus usually blooms at around 5 or 6 AM and closes again at about 7 or 8 AM. On the second, it will blooms at the same time and closes at about 10 or 11 AM. It is worth mentioning that the bud is about twice as big as it is on the first day and the flower fragrance is the strongest. Every time the lotus blooms, the color of petal will gradually fade. After having withered for 21 days, the lotus seeds can be harvested.
From now on until September, it is the best season to view lotus.
