CHIAYI, TAIWAN (TTNews) – During April and June is the best time of the year to engage in firefly-watching activity. In recent years, the local governments have been actively working on the conservation of fireflies since they are an endangered species. The mating season of fireflies usually takes place between April and June, so travelers will be able to watch these tiny, sparkling dancers at the night in the remote or heavily wooded areas. Even though the firefly-watching activity is suitable for all ages, travelers should pay extra attention to the following notices.

1. Safety first. It is for the best that travelers should be accompanied by two or three friends and pick the easiest and safest path since the firefly-watching activity usually takes place at the night.
2. Snakes are most active in the spring and early summer. Tapping a stick from side to side a couple feet in front of you when walking in tall grass will help to scare off snakes in most cases and prevent you from stepping on it.
3. Be vigilant for falling rocks from above and rock slides. For your own safety, please avoid crossing the dangerous areas.
4. Flashlight should be covered with a layer of red-colored glass paper or red pain to reduce the interference of firefly glowing. Please turn the flashlight off when observing the fireflies.
5. Full moon and rainy nights are not suitable for firefly watching.
6. Please do not grasp fireflies.
7. Please do not make loud noise or disturb fireflies.
8. In fact, it is best not to use the flashlight. Using candles or other relatively low-luminosity equipment will reduce the interference of the firefly mating.
9. Please do not litter or dump any other pollution sources.
