Generations of Penghu residents have made their living from the sea; therefore, virtually most of local residents know how to swim since they are kids, and the sea is their swimming pool. If you make a trip to Penghu in the summertime, you can be expected to witness children queue up at the pier, waiting to jump into the sea. Don’t panic when you watch this scene! It is their tradition to learn how to swim this way, and even parents totally approve of that. Children are so eager and race each other to be the first one diving into the sea without fear regardless of boys or girls. Speaking of diving into the sea, these children have plenty of ways to show off. The atmosphere is filled with laughter and joy; even tourists can stop taking pictures of them and admire their courageous actions. Next time if you happen to see children at the pier waiting to stage all kinds of dive, don’t hesitate to give them some applause!
