While sightseeing in Hong Kong, there are myriad things to see and do in one of the most culturally diverse and fascinating destinations in the world.
At the mention of villain hitting, Hong Kong is often brought up in the conversation. Villain hitting, or demon exorcising is a popular ritual performed by the people in Guangdong area of China and Hong Kong. The purpose of this folk sorcery is to curse one’s enemies. In Hong Kong, Canal Road Flyover between Causeway Bay and Wan Chai is a popular place for villain hitting. The ritual is often performed by old ladies.
After receiving the orders from clients, villain hitters would require human-shaped paper with or without specific information of villains and place it on the brick. They would beat the papers with shoes until they are unrecognizable. The hitters would smear the papers with a small piece of pork and use paper tigers to cover the papers. Once the papers are burnt, the ritual is considered to be done.
