Kaohsiung City, Taiwan –

Because of historical changes and geographical location, diverse ethnic cultures have been accumulated in Taiwan and enriched this island with distinctive features. At present, people from all walks of life become more concerned on how to preserve these irreplaceable and precious cultural assets.

Kaohsiung Hakka Cultural Museum is dedicated to promote Hakka spirit and the heritage of traditional culture. Kaohsiung Hakka Cultural Museum was built in 1995 and completed in 1998. It is located on Tongmeng Road across from Sanmin Park. The building is modelled on traditional Hakka architecture with white walls, red roof tiles and a U-shaped courtyard. The environment is calm and relaxing, providing the busy city a piece of serenity.

The cultural museum displays artifacts, including ancient rural production tools, transport and other gears, as well as everyday objects, marriage stuffs and Hakka historic site photos, so that people can have a better and profound understanding of the struggles of our ancestors coming to Taiwan and the beauty of Hakka traditional culture.

In addition, Hakka library is located on the left side of the entrance and the office of Kaohsiung City Government Council for Hakka Affairs is situated on the right side. Plus, there are display rooms and classrooms located in the basement. Curricular activities and seminars will be hosted in the basement from time to time in order to promote Hakka culture and to inject more creative vitality.

Moreover, once new Kaohsiung City Hakka Culture Area is completed, the existing Hakka Cultural Museum will be re-arranged for Hakka cultural centre. It is believed that after the completion of well-equipped Kaohsiung City Hakka Culture Area, it will become a great place with both leisure and educational functions.
