By TTNews Reporter Liao, You-Sheng TAITUNG, TAIWAN (TTNews) – With the closedown of Taitung Sugar Factory in 1996, the rest of facilities had been temporary out of service for a long time, excluding the offices and few warehouses are still under operation. With the help of “industrial cultural heritage regeneration project” auxiliary operations, six warehouses have been renovated for reuse, and now the factory has been transformed into “Creative Cultural Industrial Park”. The white warehouse was set up as “Aboriginal Handicrafts Living Hall” by Taitung County Aboriginal Cultural Development Association, congregating a total of 26 local workshops and primarily providing a wide collection of aboriginal handicrafts. While the centre is aimed at enhancing the connotation of local cultures, it also enables visitors to see the different side of aboriginal culture. The moment visitors walking into Aboriginal Handicrafts Living Hall, the first thing comes into their eyesight is a giant installation art composed by large tracts of bamboo sticks forming into a forest-like space. The hall can be roughly divided into several sections, including jewelry, living boutique and colored glaze production area. Via the guide and assistance of on-site staffs, visitors can easily walk into the world of colorful aboriginal handicrafts and discover the charm of tribal creativity and ingenuity. The contents of museum displays can be quite diversified and enormous, including leather carving products, reed leaf woven products, ceramic goods, color-painted stones, handmade bags, handmade bedding, handmade beaded jewelry, clothing and so on. Each unique design, color combination and pattern represents different kinds of blessing meanings. Itinerary Recommendation: Cycling tour: Travelers can head to Aboriginal Handicrafts Living Hall starting from Mountain Ocean Bikeway to take a look of refined aboriginal handicrafts and take part in a DIY colored glaze production activity. Afterwards, they can also head to Taitung Sugar Factory to savor local well-known ice dessert. Traffic Inforation: 1.
