Dumplings however should not be confused with wonton while they have a thicker, chewier dough skin and succulently flavorful filling. Dumplings can be poached, pan-fried or steamed to make them more enjoyable. And yet, it is customary to eat dumplings during the Lunar New Year. It is widely believed that eating dumplings can bring good lucks; hence, this traditional snack has become an extremely popular and indispensable food enjoyed during the Lunar New Year. As to why it is customary to eat dumplings during the Lunar New Year, it is said that because the shape of dumplings resembles to golden ingot, representing the idea of making a big fortune in the new year. It is also believed that the preparation of dumplings symbolizes packaging luck and wish inside the dumplings, so that whoever eats these dumplings would have a prosperous year.
