PENGHU, TAIWAN (TraNews) – Mid-summer is always the best season of the year to capture squids in Penghu. Squids usually live in the depths of ocean during the day, and come up to the surface at night to feed.
Although squids can be caught at anytime during the day or night, most squid fishing enthusiasts simply just enjoy the excitement of fishing at night. The squids are attracted by the deck lights shining on the water; hence, dark moonless nights are the most perfect time to engage in night fishing.
With the emergence of local tourism, local fishermen in Penghu specifically design a night fishing for squids leisure fishery activity. Tourists not only can sail out at night to capture squids, but they also get to taste freshly captured squid sashimi right there on the boat!
Some of the locally established fishing companies strives to offer tourists a safe, pleasant and superb sailing and night fishing experience on the boat. Some of which also supply tourists with a complete set of fishing equipment, so they don’t even need to bring their own. Squids tend to approach the light but usually aggregate in the shades from where they attack their prey in illuminated areas, so even people with no experience in fishing can easily indulge in the fun of fishing at night.
Simply just followed few basic rules, everyone can be an expert of night fishing for squids within a short time. Usually the night fishing itinerary will take about two to three hours and the average charge per person is around NT$500. Since it is safe, available to all ages, and of course extremely fun, night fishing for squids is very popular among tourists, and something tourists must experience once in their lifetime!
