TAIPEI, TAIWAN (TraNews) – Apart from shopping, watching the beautiful cityscape from the observatory on the 89th floor and 91st floor and enjoying exquisite global cuisines at Taipei 101, visitors to Taipei 101 definitely will not miss the opportunity to take photos with the public art displayed both inside and outside.

According to the information provided by Taipei 101, the company spent more than 0.5% of the total construction budget set aside for public art. Artists from seven different countries, including the United States, Britain, Canada, Germany, France, Taiwan and Hong Kong have participated in the planning of nine sites and the creation of nine works of art plus the fountain designing team. The entire project took nearly three years to complete, providing the public a space of internalized aesthetics.

There are many works of art appeared in and around Taipei 101, including LOVE, 1-0, Seal, Between Earth and Sky, Dragon Feature – The Final Show, Dialogue between Yin and Yang, City Composition, The Rising Sun – The Shooting Stars and Global Circle.

Designed by American artist Robert Indiana, “Love” is placed in front of the building, making it the most popular place for couples. People passing by it will share the signals of love and peace without cultural or racial apartheid. “1-0,” also esigned by American artist Robert Indiana, is placed in the lobby of the tower building. Combinations of 1 to 0 not only reflects financial exchange utilities but also imply life cycle from birth to death.

Designed by Hong Kong artist Cheung Yee, “Seal” can be founded on the tower building entrance floor, which is inscribed with layers of pious blessing characters: “promotion, progress, abundance, well being, modesty, persistence and learning from the moves of nature.” In the centre of the seal, the three by three matrix means “eternal treasure.”

Another work of art – “Dialogue between Yin and Yang” can also been found inside the building. The ancient Chinese concept of Yin and Yang is dynamically represented through
Rebecca Horn’s delicately designed mechanism. Mirrors and binoculars are metaphors of Yin and Yang respectively, and through their focusing, reflecting and imaging, the work evokes meaningful dialogue among itself, spectators and environment. Three of nine public art works are displayed inside the building. Those who wish to take pictures of them can inform the security by the entrance.

(The above-mentioned information is citied from the official site of Taipei 101.)
