Hsinchu County, Taiwan –
The smallest power station in Taiwan known as Gueishan Power Factory Ruanciao Branch is located in Jhudong Township. It was built in 1919 and the water resource came from Shangping River. Ruanciao Power Factory on Jhudong Canal was built to generate hydro-electricity from the running water.
According to the historic data collected by the locals, it is indicated that Ruanciao Power Factory was once temporary out of service due to mechanical failure during the World War II. Its reconstruction was completed in 1992, it was at the same time converted into a fully automatic power plant, hoping to supply the electricity to the entire Jhudong region.
Next to the power station there should be a big pond that was used as the buffer while generating the power, but now it has become a vast lawn. Taiwan Power Company converted the place into a hydro-electricity memorial park to record the history of power plant. It is now a recreational area with both leisure and education purposes.
In this small water power park, you can overlook the beautiful rural scenery from here and indulge in a piece of serenity. Meanwhile, you can have a better understanding of the process of generating hydro-electricity.
