In Taiwan, 1960-1980, the outdoor traditional dramas in front of temples always drew a variety of stalls to sell wares, such as roasted sausages, Ba Bu (Taiwanese traditional ice cream), cotton candy, and the children’s favorite—Tang hu lu, which now become the memories for people whose age between 30 and 40 years old.

A Tang hu lu typically consists of some cooked Lindley's Pear or plum coated with the hardened sugar on a bamboo skewer. Because a string of Tang hu lu looks like a hu lu (literally meaning a calabash), it is called Tang hu lu(literally meaning a sugar calabash). The red and crystal color is always irresistible.

If you want to taste this traditional delicacy, you can find the booths providing Tang hu lu in large night markets in Taiwan. Nowadays, besides the Lindley's Pear, the various flavors of Tang hu lu include tomato, strawberries, kiwifruit, mango, and so on.
