Kaohsiung City, Taiwan –
Jilin Night Market in Kaohsiung may not be so familiar to most of people, but it is many nearby school students and office workers’ favourite place for good tasting food. Jilin Night Market is situated on Jilin Street and Rehe 1st Street near Kaohsiung Medical University and Kaohsiung Rear Train Station. As a result of the intense market competition and the location close to school district, it has become one of the most popular night markets in Kaohsiung with unique features.
According to a number of store owners’ statements, the formation of Jilin Night Market has been developed for a long time. In the early days, the street market was forbidden; thus, a lot of vendors were forced to leave and to look for somewhere else. Ms. Chen, the hostess of a local dumpling restaurant, mentioned that it was actually kind of funny to see some vendors would only come out to do business after the government related units were off duty.
In nowadays, Jilin Night Market has been converted into a small-scaled market place, which is also relatively well-organized than before. During the day, Jilin Street becomes an early market. In the afternoon, some of vendors will appear one by one and prepare to open for business at night.
