NANTOU, TAIWAN (TTNews) – The history of boat tour in Sun Moon Lake has long begun in the Japanese colonial era, starting from the initial Thao canoe, boating evolved into gas or diesel-powered wooden vessel until today’s large-scale fibreglass boat with a capacity of 50 people. However, the current yacht is still generally powered by diesel engine, but accompanied by noise, fumes, odours and other shortcomings.
In order to address the issues of the shortcomings mentioned above and to promote the use of green energy, Sun Moon Lake Scenic Area Administration recently has launched solar-powered boat for trial.
Sun Moon Lake National Scenic Area Administration as early as in 2005 had already started studying the feasibility of using solar energy and power; however, due to the technological and economic constraints, it was unable to persuade the boat industry to take part in this plan. In recent years, followed by the rapid development of the domestic shipbuilding and solar energy and power industry and the surge of international oil price, it is necessary to take immediate action now. Hence, the timing for the promotion of solar energy-powered boats is ripe.

到日月潭乘船遊湖的歷史早在日治時代便已開始,從最初的邵族獨木舟、手划船,演變到汽或柴油動力木殼船,至今日可搭載50人的大型玻璃纖維船艇,不過目前遊艇仍以柴油引擎為動力來源,在馬力大的優點下,卻伴隨著噪音、油煙、臭味等各項缺點,總讓遊客在親近美麗的日月潭外留下一點遺憾。
日月潭國家風景區管理處早在2005年便已著手研究船舶使用太陽能與電力的可行性,當年因為科技上與經濟上的限制,遲無法說服遊艇業者接受,但隨著近年來國內造船、太陽能及動力產業的快速發展、國際油價持續攀高以及立即採取環保節能行動的必要性,推動太陽能電動船的時機已然成熟。
日管處即於2009年起委託聯合船舶設計發展中心研究於日月潭發展綠能船舶之可行性,設計出最適合在日月潭航行的綠能遊艇,帶動日月潭船舶新一波的動力革命,讓日月潭的美更能永續發展。
國內知名造船廠--嘉鴻集團於今年度開發出世界首款量產太陽能船—SunCat 23,並配合該研究案主動與日管處合作,於12月5日至12月13日,僅開放給遊艇、飯店業者及媒體記者登船體驗。希望透過此一先進綠能船舶的搭乘和講解,提升業者對太陽能船的認識和瞭解,進而推展綠能船舶政策。(圖/日管處提供)
