CHIAYI, TAIWAN (TraNews) – Organized by National Palace Museum, “The Story of Buddha: The Beauty of Asian Buddhist Sculptures” special exhibition is scheduled to showcase at Chiayi Municipal Museum from December 24th, 2010 until February 27th, 2011 to tie with the upcoming 2010 International Band Festival in Chiayi City and Chinese New Year holidays.
The Story of Buddha: The Beauty of Asian Buddhist Sculptures Buddhism, one of the three major religions in the world, spreads widely in Asia and deeply influences history and people's daily life. The Southern Branch of the National Palace Museum focuses on Asian arts and cultures, in which Buddhism is a significant facet.
To illustrate the nature and beauty of Buddhist sculptures in a simple way, this exhibition not only introduces the life of Śākyamuni, founder of Buddhism, through various of Buddhist sculptures, but also demonstrates different features of Buddhist sculptures to visitors. Specifically, Buddhist sculptures dating from the fourth century to modern times are selected for this exhibition, which are presented in three sections: the life of Śākyamuni, understanding Buddhist sculptures, and the world of Buddhas.
